REGULATION ON MULTIMEDIA USE IN TEACHING
1. Scope and applicability:
This Regulation provides guidelines on the use of multimedia resources as teaching materials to promote engagement and enthusiasm in the classroom.
This Regulation shall apply to all management, staff, and faculty members of both the Vietnamese and the International Program of the Asian International School.
2. Criteria for multimedia selection:
a) All multimedia resources to be employed must be educational, appropriate for the lesson or activity conducted, stimulating to students, effectively engaging them, and creating a lively learning environment.
b) Video length may vary according to the lesson content, but generally falls between one and three minutes. Videos should not last too long.
c) The selected multimedia resources to be employed in a lesson or activity must meet the following requirements:
Vietnam-related content must demonstrate solidarity between different ethnicities and give an objective, positive, unbiased, and respectful portrayal of the characters, practices, cultural and traditional values of the Vietnamese ethnicity depicted;
Content related to the nation’s sovereignty must ensure accurate and inclusive display of Vietnam’s land territory, territorial waters, islands, and other entities; Vietnam’s airspace; and the national political, and economic regime in accordance with Vietnam’s Constitution and current laws;
Content related to disabled, senior, or minor individual(s) and/or community must give an objective, positive, unbiased, and respectful portrayal of their characters, refraining from violating the Law on People with Disabilities, Law on Child Care, Protection, and Education, as well as relevant laws;
Content related to a non-educational career or a different region in Vietnam must give an objective, positive, unbiased, and respectful portrayal of such career or region, refraining from advertisement or endorsement for any particular commercial product;
Gender-related content must give an objective, positive, unbiased, and respectful portrayal of the characters and roles of each gender, refraining from violating the Law on Gender Equality;
Teaching materials must refrain from controversial topics or topics that are not widely accepted.
3. Procedure for proposing, approving, and using multimedia resources in teaching:
Step 1. Teachers research and gather multimedia teaching resources that are in alignment with lesson objectives and other requirements established by the School.
Step 2. Teachers submit multimedia resource proposals to their respective program managers for consideration and approval. The program manager shall check whether the proposed resources meet the School’s requirements.
Any teacher wishing to utilize the School’s multimedia inventory should be mindful of the compatibility between the material(s) to be employed and the lesson objectives.
Step 3. Teachers may employ the multimedia materials in their lessons once approved.
Notes:
a) Teachers should show no more than 3 videos per period to allow for other teaching methods. Watching videos multiple times may also diminish students’ focus, diverting their attention away from the lesson content.
b) Any class employing multimedia materials should be equipped with a computer or laptop, projector, and screen. If such devices are unavailable, CD players and large-screen TVs may suffice.
c) Teachers should arrange and adjust lighting, projector, screen position, and sound system so that every student can view and hear the displayed video.
4. Implementation:
This Regulation shall be promulgated to all staff and faculty of the Asian International School for implementation, which shall be directed and monitored by the Campus Program Managers.
Should there be any problem, or any need to revise or amend existing provisions during implementation, the Campus Program Manager must report to the School Board for appropriate, practical measures.
